I raised my eyebrow. "If you press down on the second fret on the D string it is an E natural. Notall the strings. Just on the D." Her thinking made absolutely no sense...

(((It should be a nice graph system. E fret, string A would lmake a higher keyed E than D string.... This is why music doesn't make sense...)))
"Oh..." I saw a different way to think of it. It could still be a graph, like it should be. If the frets where x and the strings were Y, E natural would be 2,D... I wondered if that way of thinking would work. "Okay, then, E flat is first fret, D string?"

"Yes."
((It's not theoretical. It's not a graph... the notes are all tuned to different pitches. Then, you change the pitch by blocking off part of the string; putting your finger down. THat's how you get the different notes. THe frets don't have to be there, they just suggest the best places to put your fingers.))
