I ate a strawberry and put the rest in the basket before grabbing an apple. Tea was going to some blueberries. "It's been so long since I've had any fruit or anything sweet," she informed me. "Ditto."

I picked a couple other fruits. "I'm going to bring these inside. You can stay out here if you'd like, or you can come with me. Dinner should be almost done, so everyone should be coming out."

I looked at my broken arm. We managed to get it in a more decent cast instead of a sling. I looked up at her and nodded. I walked over to the bowl of veggies next to a cutting board and knife. I started cutting them, slowly, using my bad arm to weigh down the veggie.

I noticed her arm and quickly stopped her, “Sorry, I didn’t see your arm.” I carefully pulled her over to the sauce on the stove and handed her a spoon to stir with.

I blinked a bit. "Okay. Thank you." I looked down at the pot, a bit confused. No one really cared that much. Jamie and Sam let me scale a building when my arm was in just a makeshift sling. I had to ride a bike the entire way here using both arms.

"They died a long time ago, so I was put in the foster system. It was a lot of homes that were more or less forced to take me in because the plague kinda killed a lot of their families. So I always ran away, found my brother, got put in another home, then ran away again."

"Oh, he died too. In the war. He enlisted so he could give us a better life, but I never saw him again. He was killed in action." I shrugged it off because I hated showing emotions and casualty was the best way to play this.

"Uh, yeah, it's just that... No one has done that for a while." I started to think back. Yeah, the last time had to be when I was in that toxic relationship, but it wasn't nearly as warm. I shook my head to clear my thoughts.
