I dragged it to the clearing and grinned. "We found water!" I called, dropping the rope and rushing over to it. My body was now exhausted.

I started gathering leaves and put them on the ground in a triangle position, about as long as we were. Three separate piles, occasionally glancing up at her.

I examined the branches and stuck them in the ground at an angle. It wasn't going to stay, but it gave a sense of what was going to happen.

I started propping them up, making the formation for our individual shelters. I put the tarps over the shelters and threw leaves, forming a thick layer. "There."
