Nothing Left to Say

I nodded slightly and got him some water.

I took a couple drinks before looking back up at her, slowly sliding into a chair. "How did you determine it?"

“IQ levels. That’s why when you said you were stupid I knew you weren’t.”

I snorted a bit. "Yeah, right," I muttered. "You must have messed up somewhere because I am stupid."

“Clearly you aren’t.”

"You haven't known me long enough to determine that. I'm stuck with me constantly and it sucks."

“I don’t make mistakes in Chemistry.”

I didn't reply to her, I just finished my water and took the cup to the sink. "My parents weren't stupid," I muttered as I rinsed it out.

“It’s possible they were infected by someone who was already infected. Not part of the initial.”

I thought back, after spending 3 years of suppressing the memories of loosing my parents. "They weren't affected," I muttered. "They were flat out killed. I forgot. What idiot forgets how his parents died?"

“A lot of people.”

I frowned a bit and looked down.

“I mean mine were killed in front of me and I have an eidetic memory so I remember everything, but most don’t.”

"In front of me..." I repeated, remembering. I remember watching as they were torn apart in my driveway. I was in my room, on the top floor, looking out the window where I could see it all. I remember shoving a lot of things into my bag before escaping out the window. I didn't realize I was crying until I felt the tear drop from my chin.

I quietly handed him a tissue, I didn’t want to touch him at all because I’m sure he didn’t want me to.

I wiped away the tears quickly. "I-I'm sorry, I haven't cried in almost 4 years."

“It’s ok, no need to apologize or be embarrassed.”

I nodded a bit and took another deep breath. "Did you know this was going to happen? Did you mean to kill more than half the population?"

“Honestly, Yes, but I wasn’t expecting how much it would actually affect me.”

I bit my lip. "Why? Why would you?"

“Because I used to be a terrible person and the world was full of idiots without any common sense.”

"But that's no reason to kill them! I'm one of those idiots! I got some common sense, but still!"

“I’m talking about the people who decide to eat tide pods, or need a sign to tell them not to stick their hand in a lawnmower.”

I crossed my arms. "Who were you to judge the worth of all of human kind?"
