The Power of the Eyes

"Yeah, but none of you can resist more radiation that a nuclear bomb produces."

"We'll figure something out."

I tightened my lips. "If you just told me so I could irradicate myself from your lives, it would be much simpler." I clenched my fist again. "Besides, I'm incapable of being a good friend. NO one should have to live with me. Please."

"Well it's too late now and we want to help."

I sighed once again. "You want to help? Don't put your blood on my hands."

"Got it."

"Melanie, what does Melissa need to ask her parents about? Why did you exclude me from the conversation? At least tell me this, and I won't disappear from this part of the earth."

"It's her choice whether or not to tell, not mine."

I looked after Melissa, and back to Melanie. "I suppose I'll figure it out eventually... besides, I'll figure it out when she asks, wether I want to or not." I closed my eyes, and opened them. "I won't leave, for now. The second one of my brothers decides to show his face, I'm out of here."

"Fine although if they're being Strategic then we'd be in more danger if you left so..."

"They don't really feel much human emotion. NOt like me. They'll leave you alone if they think I don't care."

"Clarification. You currently live next-door slash downstairs, right? If they find you and you get in a fight, wouldn't we be in danger anyways? Sure, I didn't know you were made for certain reasons, then left to rust for others, but it still doesn't change the fact that at least I want to be your friend. I've just barely gained some level of control over the powers that have driven me away from everyone, including my family. I've also just found out that I'm not the only one with strange powers that change the color of my eyes. I've finally made some friends, and one of them suddenly wants to ditch us, saying it's for our "safety". I don't really care about "safety" right now! Yes, life wouldn't be the same as before since I'd still have the others, but guess what? One of my biggest fears is that someone I care about practically falls off the face of the earth. I have no contact with them, I have no way of being sure they're okay or even alive. If you leave now, Lexile, I'd go crazy. Crushing panic would envelope my world. You saw my little episode earlier? That would be a stroll through heaven compared to stay my life would be like if you left right now. Yeah, sure, it sounds like I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. Wanna know how those episodes started? My favorite uncle joined the army without telling me. We were always close. He always helped me try to figure of my powers, usually to no avail, but it didn't matter. I felt like he would always be there for me, no matter what, until one day, after school, I went over to his house and found a "for rent" sign in the yard. I ran home and asked mom, but she told me she was busy and said, "not right now". I had no clue where he was or what had happened to him for twenty four hours. TWENTY FOUR HOURS. To a first grader, that feels like forever! For the first three hours, I tried to stay calm. After dinner, I went to get ready for bed, and my over-active imagination got the better off me. I started thinking of the worst possible things that could have happened to him, when I finally got to gruesome death. I couldn't handle it and, instead of going to my parents, I literally retreated into the deepest, darkest, and farthest part of my mind to escape from my own thoughts. What that resulted in was a fully conscious yet unresponsive six year old girl laying on her bedroom floor for hours. I could think, but I couldn't move. I was trapped inside myself, so scared I couldn't think straight, until I finally dug myself out of that hole. That night, all I had were nightmares, but not the ones you wake up from and run down the hall to you parents room in fear, oh no. My nightmares held me hostage and didn't let go until the sun came up. By the time I finally found out where my uncle had gone, I was no longer concerned about him. I was terrified of when the next "hole" would come. By retreating into myself, I unlocked fears like no other, and pretty much labeled myself as the mentally unstable troublemaker that all schools hate." By the time I was finished, I was crying. "For ten years, I've moved from school to school, changing psychologists as I went, struggling with school problems, puberty, and powers, not to mention the dysfunctionally of my family. Up until today, I had no friends. Up until today, not even my parents knew about the psychologists. They make so much money they won't even miss it. Up until today, only my chain of psychologists knew even part of the whole story. You two are the only two in the whole world besides me who know all that, and I just met you guys today! I get really attached to people, so if they leave and I don't know where they are or if they're okay, I end up getting hurt worse psychologically then someone whose seen war, as my last psychologist put it. Lexile, if you really don't want to hurt me, you'd be better off staying and letting me at least ask my parents about my idea. Of course, there's also the others for you to with about. They'd be stuck with me in a highly unstable mental state, and more then likely they wouldn't know what to do with me, driving them to the extreme. In that state, I'd probably end up in the insane asylum with a special room thanks to my powers. Think about that. " I said before storming off to my room. I slammed my door and flopped onto my bed, tears streaming down my face as I fought off another hole. I reached under my pillow and pulled out my art diary. I grabbed a pencil and sat up on my bed. I flipped to a new page and quickly sketched an eye, giving most of it detail but leaving the pupil blank. Inside the empty pupil, I drew the head, arms, and torso of a girl banging on glass in tears, calling out silently for help. I shaded her accordingly, then colored the pupil around her. As I did, tears of my own fell onto the paper, leaving just a trace of my physical being on the page that held my fears.

((Sorry, I don't really know where all that came from... I was really upset at a game I'd been playing, because it wasn't working right anymore, but I doubt that it was the cause of that ^^^...))

((Dude, an f isn't the end of the world. Sure, it won't look good later on, but trust me, one f wont do much to impair your record as long as it's the only f. I've had an f before so I would know. granted our likes and ambitions are different so it might not actually be true in your case, but it shouldn't be as bad as you say.))
